Belgium unfairly has an image problem. It is often portrayed as a little strange for travelers, reduced to the land of now LED-lit highways, Manneken Pis, fries in bags, hard beer and good comics.
Belgium expert Gerd Busse says: “If you take a closer look at the country, you can't help but be amazed. Without Belgium, the world, and Europe in particular, would look different today.” In the new, anecdote-rich volume “Typically Belgian” ( Grenzecho Verlag, Eupen, 352 pages, 17 euros), the Dortmund-based scientist has put together exciting facts.
